Our Mission Statement:
Access to Music develops a student’s creativity, intellect and vocational ambition through broad, relevant engagement with music and music-related curriculum.
Since 1992 Access to Music has provided quality music training to thousands of musicians across the UK, while also equipping them with valuable employability and life skills.
Access to Music has an expanding network of music centres located across England. It develops bespoke music curriculum with RSL, the UK’s only popular music awarding body, and with UK universities, such as Birmingham City University. It currently employs around 250 people.
Access to Music has a real presence in the music industry which provides Access to Music students with the opportunity to engage safely in industry practice.
In April 2013 Access to Music was awarded a 'Good" grade in a full Ofsted inspection. Inspectors praised tutors saying 'Learners benefit from teachers’ excellent vocational expertise and knowledge of the music industry. Teachers draw on their extensive experience which helps to engage and motivate learners by making informed anecdotal comparisons with real life experience. Teachers are well qualified and experienced; many are current practitioners in the music business'. They added 'A strong culture of mutual support and respect exists' and 'Learners enjoy their learning and demonstrate good collaborative skills. Learners acquire a good knowledge and understanding of music and technology'.
Access to Music has also been awarded Grade 1 Outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (December 2012 and December 2014). They found that 'course provision, teaching and learning are outstanding and exceed expectations'.
Access to Music work closely with RSL to develop bespoke music curriculum throughout the UK. RSL is the leading name in the contemporary arts. They are a global, specialist awarding body who pride themselves on their knowledge of the sectors they work in, and the quality and integrity of the qualifications they award. The world is full of musicians, performers and practitioners who are keen to hone their skills, and RSL and Access to Music are there to support them.
