Access to Music is the UK’s first choice destination for school leavers who want to follow their passion for popular music and creative media.
REASONS TO CHOOSE US
A great alternative to school or college
Studying at school or the local big college is not for everyone, but GCSEs, A Levels and BTECs are not the only choices! We offer an exciting and practical alternative to 6th form or college, where you can shine in a creative environment.
Making you feel at home
Our students feel at home with us because it’s a welcoming, creative place. Here you can be yourself - we don’t have any dress codes, or tell you what length your hair should be!
Boosting your creativity and confidence
We encourage you to think outside the box and be creative. By working with others and getting out and doing it, your confidence will grow, as will your team skills.
Mixing with creative people
You’ll be in a stimulating musical and creative environment. You’ll be taught by tutors with creative and industry experience. You’ll be able to meet and collaborate with fellow students on real-life music projects, such as remixes, media projects, music releases and organising gigs. You’ll meet industry players who’ll show you how you can get on in the industry.
Letting you get out and do it!
Organise and take part in regular local events from gigs in local venues to club nights and festivals. Get involved in raising money for charities and have the chance to engage with national opportunities from playing and working at festivals, such as Latitude, to being selected for industry showcases and remix projects.
Get your hands on great kit
You will learn in a dedicated centre that’s set up for creating and producing music and media - not a large college where the creative arts are just another subject. We train people for the music and media industries and use professional, industry-standard equipment to achieve this.
A high-quality education
Wherever you study, you are part of a national music college which has been at the forefront of music education for over 20 years. The college was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in 2013 and as ‘Outstanding’ by the Independent Schools Inspectorate in December 2014. National success rates are above standards set for the creative sector.
Courses to suit you
If music and media is your passion, we’ve got a course to suit you! If you are just getting started in music, you can take your first steps with our Skills Through Music Level 1 course which can lead on to further study. Then there are options in Music Performance, Music Technology (with pathways in Music Production and Sound Engineering at Level 3) and Music Business. We also have a unique Creative Media course which gives you digital media skills in a music context. Finally, for aspiring artists, we have the Level 4 Artist Development programme.

Our Mission Statement:
Access to Music develops a student’s creativity, intellect and vocational ambition through broad, relevant engagement with music and music-related curriculum.
Since 1992 Access to Music has provided quality music training to thousands of musicians across the UK, while also equipping them with valuable employability and life skills.
Access to Music has an expanding network of music centres located across England. It develops bespoke music curriculum with Rockschool, the UK’s only popular music awarding body, and with UK universities and conservatoires. It currently employs around 250 people.
Access to Music has a real presence in the music industry which provides Access to Music students with the opportunity to engage safely in industry practice.
In April 2013 Access to Music was awarded a 'Good" grade in a full Ofsted inspection. Inspectors praised tutors saying 'Learners benefit from teachers’ excellent vocational expertise and knowledge of the music industry. Teachers draw on their extensive experience which helps to engage and motivate learners by making informed anecdotal comparisons with real life experience. Teachers are well qualified and experienced; many are current practitioners in the music business'. They added 'A strong culture of mutual support and respect exists' and 'Learners enjoy their learning and demonstrate good collaborative skills. Learners acquire a good knowledge and understanding of music and technology'.
Access to Music has also been awarded Grade 1 Outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (December 2012 and December 2014). They found that 'course provision, teaching and learning are outstanding and exceed expectations'.
