Deputy Course Director

Access to Music is seeking to appoint a Deputy Course Director for the Foundation Degree in Popular Music Practice (Popular Musician) at The British Academy of New Music for September 2010. The role will include the day-to-day management and assessment of students on the programme together with delivery of the following units:

  • Audience and Society FD 1 – Audience analysis, ethnographic research and media studies in popular music
  • Musical Opportunity FD2 – career opportunities in popular music, trend analysis and self evaluation skills
  • Study Skills – development of research, academic and presentation skills, UoW library resource training communication and self-evaluation skills
  • Skills Development – development of research and refinement of research skills, final project support and guidance

We are looking to add to a team of highly skilled, dynamic and experienced musicians/writers and music industry consultants to deliver this unique and ground-breaking qualification at the University of Westminster.

Module Leader (Foundation Degree & Artist Development Level 4)

Starting Date: 20th September 2010
Approximately: 6 hours per week*
Salary: dependent on qualifications and experience

We are seeking a Study Skills and Skills Development Module leader to join our thriving Foundation Degree team at BANM. The successful candidate will have an excellent understanding of academic and vocationally orientated study and be able to support students with their learning at degree level. Applicant should possess exceptional critical thinking and evaluative skills combined with experience in creating successful teaching and learning strategies suitable to this environment. Applicants should preferably have experience in the development and enhancement of student learning in higher education.

  • Knowledge and awareness of Foundation Degree structure, ethos and practice
  • Lecturing experience at the appropriate level
  • An excellent understanding of academic referencing systems and methodology
  • A good working knowledge and awareness of research resources
  • Ability to contribute to curriculum development
  • A relevant teaching qualification, or commitment to gaining a teaching qualification within a specified timescale;

MIS Funding and Admissions Manager

Salary: £40,000 to £45,000

Flexible working location to include Manchester, Birmingham, Leicester or North East London, with regular travel to our Leicester office.

To lead the management information systems, funding and admissions teams in providing high quality systems spanning management information including full tracking of learner related data in support of the business’s funding and strategic plans,and the provision of enrolment, information, advice and guidance services to learners. To develop MIS strategy and funding to maximise business opportunities and growth. To ensure appropriate support and guidance is provided to staff and learners by the team.

A strong communicator and effective manager, you will have extensive knowledge and experience of funding, ILR and learner data along with knowledge and understanding of admissions, guidance and learner support processes.

We are seeking to recruit 5 Area Marketing Coordinators to be based in London, Birmingham, Bristol, Norwich, Lincoln. This post would suit a Marketing Undergraduate.

The successful candidates will have experience in the field of conducting market research and analysis and community/business based marketing and promotions work. They will undertake primary and secondary research into music, creative arts education provision, community and youth provision and demographics and unemployment in the local and regional areas. The post will also include:

  • Implementing and monitoring marketing strategies, promotional materials, systems and procedures
  • Supporting, developing and documenting local networks
  • Gathering, analysing, interpreting and presenting data relating to local priorities, business, student and client needs in a variety of forms;
  • Demonstrating a sound understanding of equality and diversity strategies and practice in the marketing and promotion of business and learning opportunities.
  • Involvement in Event Coordination
  • Promoting ALG in the press and media

The successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, being effective as a team member whilst being able to work independently when required.

Lecturer- Functional Skills

Starting Date: as soon as possible
Salary: £20.18 to £21.43 per hour
Required in various locations including Birmingham, Brighton, Manchester and Norwich.

Delivering functional skills qualifications in Maths, English and ICT to learners on a vocational music qualification. You will also offer advice and support to other lecturers on all aspects of the functional skills specification.

You will be suitably qualified to Level 3 or above with an excellent command of English, Maths or ICT. You should have a teaching qualification and a proven ability to teach Literacy, Numeracy or ICT.

You will also have experience of making the subjects relevant to young musicians, up-to-date knowledge of the functional skills reform and be able to demonstrate an ability to work with staff in vocational areas.

Varying numbers of hours are available depending on learner numbers.

Lead Instructor- Freelance Music Apprenticeships.

Hours: 16-21 hours per week*
Start Date: September 2010
Salary Scale: £20.60-£21.22 dependent on teaching qualifications
Based: Norwich

We are seeking a Lead Instructor to join our team at Access to Music Birmingham on our Freelance Music Apprenticeships. The successful candidate will:

  • have experience in the field of freelance music practice
  • identify applicable competency assessments that can be developed in both the learning environment and in the workplace.
  • co-ordinate the Apprenticeship team (Instructor, Functional Skills Tutor, Music Industry Mentor)
  • be responsible for all Individual Learning Plans and the preparation of all activities that will form the Apprentices learning aim
  • prepare the Apprentice for final assessments and will be responsible for organising assessments and generating and collating assessment evidence
  • be responsible for monitoring the development of Apprentice competencies and review progress. Apprenticeship competencies will be developed through Instructor feedback in preparation for final assessments
  • be responsible for the management of the delivery team and learning for the year group in terms of, achievement, curriculum delivery and assessment, punctuality and attendance, retention, discipline, pastoral issues, safeguarding and equal opportunities

The post will also include the:

• management of administration for the year group;
• contribution to marketing and Apprentice recruitment for the year group
• monitoring of staff and staff recruitment for the year group
• monitoring of accommodation and resources for the year group
• monitoring of quality procedures for the year group
• Experience and knowledge of freelance music practice and self-employment in this field
• An understanding of music business, copyright, intellectual property and music law
• Musical skills
• Composition or recording skills, using music sequencers, preferably on an Apple Mac platform
• Good IT skills
• Applicants must hold CTLLS or equivalent.

Applicants must hold or be working towards DTLLS, Cert Ed or PGCE.
