BLACKBURN: Blackburn COLLEGE

Access to Music has been working closely with Blackburn College for many years.

The music centre is located in the impressive Victoria Building, adjacent to Blackburn’s premier entertainment venue, King George’s Hall. Only minutes walk from the town centre, it is ideally situated for those commuting into the town from the suburbs and from East Lancashire at large. Resources include a newly-refurbished recording studio facility and purpose-built, sound-proofed rehearsal rooms.

The town of Blackburn nestles on the edge of some of England’s most spectacular countryside and is steeped in history, having been a major centre for innovation during the industrial revolution. Musically, Blackburn has many venues in pubs and clubs in addition to King George’s Hall and boasts a vibrant live scene.

One Man Band
Earlier this year saw ex student Roo Walker tour the UK with fellow up and coming artist Philippa Hanna. Roo performed to audiences across the country and obviously impressed as his EP Positive Music was snapped up by hungry fans.

Now Roo plans to go it alone as he develops a one-man show which will tour across the UK and showcase his multi instrumental skills. Roo Walker studied on what is now called the Performing Musician course at the Blackburn centre. Visit his myspace

Ex-student’s music selected for iPad advert
A track by Ex-Access to Music student Sean Redmond now features on the new iPad advert. Sean, who studied on the Digital Musician course, said the deal came about after a brief came in from Apple looking for something uplifting and guitar based. The publishing company he is signed to put Sean’s track forward and within 72 hours the track was online and heard by millions worldwide!

The track is called Shooting Stars and is out now on iTunes. It is taken from Sean’s forthcoming album It was Obviously Wrong From The Start set for release this summer. Check him out here
