BLACKBURN: Blackburn COLLEGE

Access to Music has been working closely with Blackburn College for many years.

The music centre is located in the impressive Victoria Building, adjacent to Blackburn’s premier entertainment venue, King George’s Hall. Only minutes walk from the town centre, it is ideally situated for those commuting into the town from the suburbs and from East Lancashire at large. Resources include a newly-refurbished recording studio facility and purpose-built, sound-proofed rehearsal rooms.

The town of Blackburn nestles on the edge of some of England’s most spectacular countryside and is steeped in history, having been a major centre for innovation during the industrial revolution. Musically, Blackburn has many venues in pubs and clubs in addition to King George’s Hall and boasts a vibrant live scene.

Ric's off to Nashville
Ric Birtill (25) from Preston will be flying to Nashville next month to record with top bass player Chris Donaghue (Elvis Costello, Emi Lou Harris). Donaghue is backing the local singer songwriter and plans to record a 6 track EP of his songs. He is also in the final stages of the BBC Radio 2 new songwriters competition. Not only does he attend a masterclass with Sacha Skarbek (who co-wrote the world wide number 1 hit You’re Beautiful with James Blunt), but if he wins he gets to be mentored by a top songwriter.
