MUSIC EDUCATOR: OVERVIEW

By doing the Music Educator course you will:

  • Understand how people learn music.
  • Gain skills in assessing music.
  • Observe session delivery and management.
  • Prepare and deliver a music course.
  • Write schemes of work and session plans.
  • Gain music teaching experience.
  • Learn about special educational needs and music.
  • Gain skills in using information learning technology.
  • Develop masterclass/workshop skills.
  • Learn about job opportunities and how to market yourself as a music educator.
  • Gain a recognised and industry-relevant qualification. The course leads to a Rockschool/ATM Diploma at Level 3 (A Level equivalent). The one-year Diploma generates 48 ten-hour credits. The qualification is unit-based and assessment is focused on practical music-making activities.
  • Gain a PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector) Award which is the minimum mandatory qualification for classroom teaching at further education level and in sixth form colleges (additional fee required).
  • Have the opportunity to gain a CTLLS (Certificate to Teach in Lifelong Learning Sector) as a bolt-on qualification (additional fee required). This means you can teach in further education and sixth form colleges, plus prisons and HM forces. This can give you progression to the Diploma (DTLLS) which leads to Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).
  • Access opportunities to teach music components of the new 14-19 Diplomas for schools and colleges in your area.
  • Gain access to Higher Education teacher training courses.
  • Enrol and study where you live.

Please note you must be 18 or over to do this course!
You will also be required to undergo a compulsory
Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) check.

The course is available as a flexible/blended learning programme which allows you to enrol and study where you live. You will be required to attend 1 three-day session per month (Thurs - Sat) throughout the academic year at the ATM centre of your choice:

FEES:
 
 

 

For the Level 3 Music Educator course at ATM centres, students have to pay £415 which includes enrolment, tuition ISA (mandatory Independent Safeguarding Authority) check and a CRB check.

If you are in receipt of benefits, the cost of the Music Educator will total £114 (Enrolment, ISA check plus CRB check).

There is an additional cost for the PTTLS (£60) and CTTLS (£100). Please note that if you intend to continue with your training, we recommend you opt for the CTTLS as it includes the PTTLS within it. If you just opt for the PTTLS, you will have to pay an additional £100 in the future for the CTTLS.
