BMus POPULAR MUSIC PERFORMANCE

Accelerated 2-year degree
Access to Music Birmingham

This Popular Music Performance degree, offered in partnership with Birmingham City University, provides vocational training for musicians (guitarists, bassists, drummers, keyboard players and vocalists) who intend to work in the music industry as freelance popular musicians. It is designed to cater for musicians from a wide range of musical backgrounds and experiences and provide the skills required to progress into employment, self-employment and/or higher-level study.

We are currently keen to recuit bassists and drummers for 2017 start, so please apply if you would like to study these instruments.

The course comprises 360 credits over an accelerated 2 year period. It is designed to equip you with the skills required to operate as a freelance musician with a focus on music performance. You will be required to analyse the development of your skills and how to exploit these to maximise the effectiveness of your projects. You will also expand your ability to contextualise, to think critically and to apply theories, to allow you to develop as an individual.

The course is delivered from The Mushrooms studios and Access to Music’s own centre in Birmingham’s creative quarter. The Mushrooms offers fully-equipped rehearsal rooms and a digital studio and allows students to study in a professional workplace. All students can take advantage of the excellent facilities at BCU’s new city centre campus which is located a short walk from The Mushrooms. There are library facilities as well as a student union shop and bar.

The 2-year delivery model means you will save money on tuition fees. The total cost of this degree is just over £12,000, while many universities are charging £27,000 over 3 years.

Applications are welcome from international students. Please refer to International Courses for more information.
