ED SHEERAN

Access to Music is really honoured to have Ed Sheeran as a patron of Access to Music.

Ed Sheeran is one of the biggest names in global music. Taking a simple concept of acoustic songs enhanced with looped phrases, Ed has since developed his art to become an international best-selling artist who can collaborate with the top names in the industry.

Ed came to Access to Music in 2007/08 to undertake an Artist Development course in London. He had dropped out of A Levels and was looking for a dedicated music opportunity. The course allowed him to explore his creativity and develop his skills as a musician and performer. Of his time at Access to Music, Ed commented, 'It was a wicked course. It gave me the first push and I loved the freedom. They understood that half of the learning you need for the industry was outside the classroom with gigs and studio time.’

While on the course, Access to Music arranged for Ed and other students to showcase to Island Records in a talent-finding initiative. Ed ended up winning the talent test, but it was Asylum Records who actually signed him in 2011 after he had been picked up by Elton John's management team.

Ed performed at the 2008 Access to Music Awards Ceremony in London and you can hear his fledgling talent in the following videos:
